DCVLP is Now Volunteer Legal Advocates: A New Name, Same Mission
After more than 17 years of serving survivors and children, we’re proud to share a new name that better reflects who we are and what we do:
DC Volunteer Lawyers Project is now Volunteer Legal Advocates.
Our new name honors the powerful network of pro bono lawyers and advocates who drive our mission forward every day. It centers who we are and what we do: champions for justice through skilled, compassionate, and pro bono legal aid.
Why the Change?
As our impact grows, so does our vision. We needed a name that matched the breadth of our reach and the depth of our commitment. Volunteer Legal Advocates reflects the staying power of our work and the passion of the people behind it. What hasn’t changed is our core mission:
- To ADVOCATE for domestic violence victims, at-risk children, and other vulnerable individuals through comprehensive pro bono legal services,
- To EMPOWER victims with knowledge, resources, and ongoing support, and
- To BROADEN OUR IMPACT by engaging, training, and supporting a strong and diverse network of volunteer lawyers and community volunteers.
We remain guided by the belief that a life free from violence and abuse is a basic human right.
Be Part of What’s Next
Whether you’re new to our work or have supported us for years, we invite you to be part of this next chapter. There are many ways to get involved:
- Spread the word about our work in your networks
- Volunteer your time at a legal clinic or take on a pro bono case
- Follow us on social media and help amplify our impact

Together, we are building a future where every survivor, child, and immigrant impacted by domestic or gender-based violence can access the legal support they deserve.
