Voices of Resilience: A Purple Thursday Conversation with Nikki Addimando and Michelle Horton

Join DC Volunteer Lawyers Project on Thursday, October 17, 2024, for a powerful and thought-provoking evening in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Special guests Nikki Addimando and Michelle Horton will share their deeply personal journey of survival, resilience, and justice. Michelle Horton, author of Dear Sister: A Memoir of Secrets, Survival, and Unbreakable Bonds, will provide insights from her fight for her sister Nikki’s freedom, following Nikki’s conviction of second-degree murder for the death of her abuser. Nikki herself will join the conversation, offering her firsthand account of the abuse she endured and her legal struggle for justice.

We are also honored to have DCVLP Board member Kamil Shields, Partner at Sullivan & Cromwell and a member of the legal team that represented Nikki in her appellate case, moderating the discussion. Kamil’s advocacy for survivors will bring a compelling perspective on justice, healing, and the critical importance of standing with those affected by gender-based violence.

The event will be hosted at the Washington, DC office of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, a firm deeply committed to pro bono work and supporting survivors of domestic violence.

Each ticket includes a complimentary copy of Dear Sister, which will be distributed at the event, with an opportunity to have your book signed by the author.
