Do you want to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims and at-risk children?

Join us as a law fellow. We have opportunities for recent graduates and practicing attorneys. We hope you will join us!

The DC Volunteer Lawyers Project is a dynamic legal services organization in the District of Columbia. We recruit, train, and support volunteer lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to domestic violence victims and at-risk children. We represent victims in cases to obtain protection orders, as well as in family law cases involving custody and divorce matters. We also serve as court-appointed Guardians ad litem for children at risk of harm in high-conflict custody cases.

LAW FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The DC Volunteer Lawyers Project seeks public interest law fellows to learn to be a voice in court for domestic violence victims and at-risk children. A fellowship with DCVLP is an excellent opportunity to learn trial skills while helping low-income victims and children achieve safety and stability in their lives.

  • ROXANA CANNON ARSHT LAW FELLOWSHIP

We are currently accepting applications for this position. For a full description of this position and application instructions please click here.

The Roxana Cannon Arsht Law Fellowship is named in honor of Adrienne Arsht’s remarkable mother, The Hon. Roxana Cannon Arsht. Adrienne Arsht established the fellowship at DC Volunteer Lawyers Project to honor her mother’s groundbreaking achievements as Delaware’s fifth female lawyer and the first female judge appointed in Delaware.

The Arsht Law Fellows provide a much-needed voice in court for our clients while growing their interviewing, research, and litigation skills. To date, Arsht Law Fellows have helped over hundred victims and children in DC Superior Court. The Arsht Law Fellowship not only helps victims and children achieve safety and stability, it helps women lawyers rebuild their careers and return to the workforce.

After a training period featuring a live mock trial, fellows will provide direct representation to DCVLP clients in DC Superior Court.

    This fellowship is a full-time, two-year position.

    LITIGATION EXPERIENCE:

Our fellows receive extensive litigation training before representing a client. Fellows typically litigate between 25-35 protection order cases during their tenure. Fellows will also represent domestic violence survivors in family law cases, which may involve discovery, motions and trial preparation. In addition, Fellows will advocate for the best interests of children living with abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and worse as court-appointed Guardians ad litem.

I just wanted to say thank you again for giving me such a wonderful experience as a fellow. The foundation in family law I received at DCVLP allowed me to be where I am today. Thank you!
