(Training) Immigration Rights for Survivors: Providing Legal Advice in a Clinic Setting

December 7, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

As DCVLP’s RELIEF Immigration Services grow to assist more vulnerable immigrants to protect their families and secure immigration relief, we are excited to launch our Immigration Legal Clinic and engage volunteers in this impactful new opportunity. For many clients, calling one of our clinics is their first step toward finding safety and stability.

This training will prepare you to provide advice to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violence at our Immigration Legal Clinic. This training is geared toward current clinic volunteers who are interested in assisting with immigration-related issues and current immigration volunteers who are interested in providing advice in a clinic setting, but volunteers who have never done immigration or clinic work are welcome to join us well!

Topics will include:

  • Overview of DCVLP clinics & intake process
  • Overview of the types of immigration relief DCVLP can assist with
  • Tips for an effective, trauma-informed client interview
  • Case studies of typical clinic visitors
