About the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project
“At the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project, we believe nobody should be forced to live in a violent or abusive home.” — Karen Marcou, Executive Director
Since 2008, the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project, founded by three women attorneys, has utilized a unique non-profit model to provide training, supervision and support to thousands of volunteer attorneys who, in turn, provide pro bono assistance to thousands of domestic violence victims and at-risk children in the District. These dedicated attorneys represent victims in protection order, custody, child support and divorce cases, and serve as court-appointed advocates for vulnerable children living with domestic violence and abuse. The DC Volunteer Lawyers Project also operates a Domestic Violence Resource Clinic in Southwest DC, providing victims with legal, housing and counseling services.
